Inspiration has been hard of late and I have been going through a bit of a dry, uncreative spell. What better way to come out of that, than purchase a new piece of equipment. I have bought a ‘halo ring soft light’. This is something that is used mostly in portraits and without a willing victim available I had to practice on myself. The light has changeable temperatures and can give a range of cold to warm lighting effect. You can’t see it on here but the picture below you can see a more natural orange tinge, this was due to having the setting that gave a too a warm effect. My skin tone didn’t take to this. It is OK though as it is possible to tone these down in editing but moving forward it will be an area for me to practice and look to see from a person’s complexion and goal of a session as to what setting I use. Practicing on yourself is also good to be aware of how difficult it is to be in front of the lens.. my comfort zone is definitely behind.
