Newborn, A mother’s love

P33 SS: 1/100, Fstop: f/4, Focal point: 88mm, ISO: 2000

This is my first baby shoot. I love the natural relationship between parents and their new babies. I hope to capture this unique relationship as best I can. The day was really sunny which provided a few challenges and also this young man was a little unsettled so it took time to get some really nice photographs. Learning to take away from this is have time, keep the parents relaxed and just go with the little one.

I was so privileged to be asked to take some photos of Mick. We have known each other for a very long time and spending time with him is always fun and interesting. His connection with Mother Earth and philosophy is very akin to mine. The photoshoot was for a book and it was really important to get that spirituality across, hence going to Mick’s favourite location. The weather, literally smiled on us and I was able to work with the gentle hues and shades of green. We shot this in what we know as the ‘golden hour’ or ‘Holy hour’. It is definitely called this for a reason. The colours and energy of nature really shifts. Stunning.

It is always a pleasure to take photos of this beautiful young lady. I am discovering the real benefits of my 100-400mm lens which really allows me to take some great shots without being intrusive and allowing the models to get on with just having some fun.
