“Don’t go through life, grow through life” – Eric Butterworth

Graffiti bird

This fella was watching me eat lunch. This was edited to give a more painted look which works well with the graffiti in the background. Taken on iPhone 13 pro and edited in ‘Snapseed’

Newborn, A mother’s love

This is my first baby shoot. I love the natural relationship between parents and their new babies. I hope to capture this unique relationship as best I can. The day was really sunny which provided a few challenges and also this young man was a little unsettled so it took time to get some really…

Playing with Mum

There is nothing quite like seeing a young child just absorbed in a moment of absolute joy. This little lady was really having fun with her Mum and it was great to take the photo and make it a long lasting memory. It’s what sunny days are for.. getting out to the park and being…

Pin up Pony

This was the third horse I was honoured to photograph and can’t thank all the horse Mum’s and Dad’s enough for sharing them with me. This gorgeous little lass is only 4 years old and look at those locks. Through editing I was able to bring out the clean whiteness of her coat. She was…

Spiritual connection

To know horses is to feel their connection and spiritual nature. This photo I felt really shows the love and connection between ‘Mum’ and Charlie. They have been together for such a long time. He really was the most beautiful, gentle and trusting horse.

Wild wild horses

I haven’t been around much lately to post on here as I have been lucky in that I have been very busy, both with work and practicing this wonderful art. I really had the privilege of spending time with some wonderful horse parents at their stables. This is Colin who was happy to oblige me…

cool hat look

P33: SS: 1/1000, F/stop: f/5.6, Focal Point: 400mm, ISO: 500 This is, so far, one of my absolute favourite pictures I have taken.  When you have caught something special you feel it and it makes you feel great. I am really loving portrait work because I love making people happy and when I can offer…

Lost in thought

PN28: SS: 1/160, f stop; f/4, focal length; 40mm, ISO; 2000 One of the things I really like about portrait photography is when you capture that moment where the person you are photographing has just, for a second, forgotten the camera and they share with you this moment elsewhere. This is a good example, my…

Timmy the camera shy chippet

It has been a little while since my last blog and this is one of the reasons. I had the pleasure and challenge of shooting this little chap at home with his human Mummy. The session brought a number of challenges, which included; really bright and hot day, shooting late morning and midday (not the…

Bird of Prey

This was a real fortuitous shot. I happened upon a lady staring in the trees holding a camera. She showed me this little fella, who she feels was waiting to raid a nest. There were some angry birds around including magpies making a massive amount of noise. Clarity was challenging with this picture due to my…

To say I was excited to get my first decent moon shot is a slight understatement. Thanks to seeing how others do it, VOILA!!! On the photo group that I am on, so many have been putting really similar shots so it does seem to be a photo goal. Also it was no nice to see pictures almost exactly like mine.. that means that when I was in my garden taking this photo, so were so many others.. each one of us looking up at the sky, a moment of togetherness. I vignetted the hell of it and actually really liked the result, gives an extra geometric slant to it. SS: 1/800, f/9 400mm ISO: 320

Happy Weekend everyone,

Whilst I am tucking into my wine and crisps I thought I would start my regular blog by showing something healthy! I asked friends and family to give me a themes (365 challenge) and topics to help keep me challenging myself and one of them was ‘orange’. Naturally the easiest thing is to go for an Orange… but how to make the humble fruit interesting. I found this hessian bag and the ideas started to flow… whole Oranges, partially cut Oranges.. I even tried 8 segments but that was absolutely awful! setting range from SS: 1/100 – 250, F/4 – 7, ISO: 2000. I know me and Phillip liked different photos, so which one is yours?

So the working week ended and I set out to try and get some of the last light up Whitlingham. I hoped to have enough light to get some of the birds without have too many people around to disturb them. This chap/chapess was very obliging and gave me a series of great actions shots. The low light meant that I had to have my ISO on 2000 and a fairly low f/stop (f/4/5) to be able to get the high shutter speed. This has meant that there is a lot of ‘noise’ and the images lack a certain clarity. Lightroom has compensated well particularly as they have had to be cropped extensively. These are not as good as if they had been taken earlier in the day but they show the wonder of light room. Still learning that one by the way! Do let me know what you think..

Another one of my 365 (#2)themes, Blackbird.  My immediate thoughts were whether to go for something like a ‘Blackbird’ motorbike to do a more obtuse image and this is something I may still do, but for now here are two that I snapped this week at my local ‘Waterloo Park’. Let me know which is your favourite and why.  Setting were Bird in the tree SS1/200, f/7.1, 400mm, ISO:1250 and the little gent on the grass SS: 1/250, f/13, 400mm, ISO 1000. Whilst birds are not my favourite go to theme they are great to practice my moving objects photography.
